KARA MANOS // Politics of Pretty
NARS Lipstick in Jungle Red — This is my go-to signature red shade. It’s a little on the expensive side but the long-wearing formula makes it worth every penny.
Maybelline Baby Lips Lip Balm in Quenched — Two words: lip glow. I can’t get enough of this drugstore lip balm for a “no makeup” makeup look.
bareMinerals Marvelous Moxie in Fly High — I’m obsessed with this gorgeous lilac satin lipstick. This is one of those rare types of lipstick you can apply straight from the tube and still get an even application.
L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche Le Gloss in Watermelon Crush — I’m really picky about lip gloss but to date, this is the best non-sticky lip gloss I’ve found (not to mention, for a fraction of the price). This is a sheer bright pink lip gloss but I’ve already stocked up on a few other shades as well.
Bliss Fabulips Sugar Lip Scrub — Before I swipe on any lip gloss or lipstick, a pinch of this vanilla scented sugar lip scrub easily sloughs away any dry skin I have. Post scrub, my lips are soft, supple and ready for a pop of color!
MEGAN SCHWARZ // Seed to Serum
R.L. Linden & Co. La Balmba Rosa Healing Rose Balm — This gorgeous pink lip balm provides a generous dose of hydration AND a subtle hint of glossiness.
RMS Beauty Lip Shine in Sacred — This is my go-to bold lip color. The color is intense, yet wearable, and the glossy finish is so beautiful that I can’t stop myself from collecting every shade.
Ilia Tinted Lip Conditioner in Arabian Nights — This rich, berry shade is incredibly flattering. Though the color appears dark in the tube, the sheer formula makes it appropriate for both day and night.
Osmia Organics Simmer Lip Gloss — For those of you itching to try orange, this is a great pick. The glossy format tones down the bold hue making this a more wearable option.
ELIZABETH DEHN // Beauty Bets
Sara Happ The Lip Slip – The one lip product I’d hate to live without is a balm. But a really pretty, pale pink with a hint of shimmer balm at that!
MAC Ruby Woo Lipstick — MAC Ruby Woo Lipstick ended my search for the perfect matte retro-red hue.
Bobbi Brown Crystal Lip Gloss — There’s nothing like clear lip gloss to brighten up your entire face and make you look instantly more pulled together. Bobbi Brown’s is, unsurprisingly, classic.
Laura Geller’s Lip Strip — A minty fresh sugar scrub, manages to be creamy yet exfoliating—and tastes good enough to eat.
ILIA Lipstick (not pictured) — I’ve been slow to embrace green cosmetics but Ilia’s lipsticks (and cheek creams for that matter) are just as rich and beautifully pigmented as their more chemical-laden brethren.
LARA RAMOS // The Glossarie
Stila Yumberry Crush Lip & Cheek Stain — One of the best creations ever, this lip stain from Stila is the perfect finishing touch to everyday makeup. It gives lips a super bright pink, sheer flush that lasts for a crazy long time (like, until tomorrow long). I love layering it under lipsticks and lip glosses so that when their color starts to fade, I’m still left with a pop of pink.
e.l.f. Lip Exfoliator
— Lip scrub in a stick just makes sense and this one from e.l.f. eliminates all traces of flakes with a few circular scuffs. The granules are housed in a moisturizing balm so that lips are smooth, hydrated, happy, and completely prepped for bold color. The best way to describe this stuff is like a mini facial for your lips. Must have.
Dr. Lipp Original Nipple Balm for Lips —
Trust me when I tell you that there is no better lip moisturizer on the planet. This ultra rich and nourishing balm banishes chapped lips on contact. I apply it fresh out of the shower and by the time I’m ready to apply my lipstick, my lips are primed and ready. Dr. Lipp grips on to color like glue, keeping my lips hydrated and my color in place.
Jane Iredale Retractable Lip Brush
— I get more compliments on this little lip brush! It applies color with beautiful precision thanks to the tapered tip and it looks as pretty sitting on my vanity as it does coming out of my favorite clutch for a touch up. I have learned that lipstick just looks better when applied with a brush and this is the most glam way to get it done.
Bite Beauty Custom Lip Color
— Everyone should visit the Bite Lip Lab in SoHo! Custom colorists take you through creating a just-for-you lip color, from selecting a shade, to choosing the texture (sheer, matte, etc.), adding a flavor and pouring it into a perfect little bullet. My custom shade is a sheer fuchsia violet that compliments my skin tone and wears like a dream.
ILIA Tinted Lip Conditioner (not pictured) — This lip conditioner in Blossom Lady is my favorite lip color, ever. And not my favorite organic lip color but overall as a category. That was the intention ILIA had when founding her line and she totally succeeded.
Kjaer Weis Lip Tint — This lip tint is like a chic piece of jewelry for your lips. The shade Romance is the perfect brightening pink and I love that I can refill the compact when it runs out.
John Masters Organic Lip Calm — I wear this under every lip color and when I need moisture throughout the day. It melts on to lips and tastes like a fresh squeezed orange. Plus, it only costs $6!
bareMinerals Marvelous Moxie Lipliner — I love the entire line of Moxie products, especially this lip liner in Thrilled. It’s the perfect nude for my lip color and helps my lip color go the distance during a long day at work. I also wear it alone with a bit of balm.
Jouer Lip Gloss — This lip gloss in Monaco is an incredible sheer red with a hint of coral. I love Jouer’s moisturizing formula and sleek square tube that physically connects to its palette system. It’s the perfect side car to my bronzer!
CLAIRE ASHLEY // ULTIMAKEOVER
MAC Lipgloss “Love Nectar”
— This is a universal lipgloss color whether it’s on it’s own or on top of a lipstick. It’s a gorgeous neutral apricot color with a pearl undertone. Love Nectar is one of the top products we sold while I worked at MAC Cosmetics!
Lush Lip Scrub “Mint Julips”
— Gently exfoliates dry lips leaving behind a smooth and tingly finish. A pinch of the castor sugar will make it easier to apply any lip products on top.
MakeupForever Waterproof Lipliner “Rosewood”
— A great buy if you’re looking for an everyday lip color. The pigmentation of these lip liners are phenomenal and don’t require touch ups. I’ll sometimes just use the lip liner all over my lips without lipstick and it’s stunning all on its own.
ERIN GERLACH // The Sparkle
MAC Cremesheen Glass — I just love MAC’s Partial to Pink Cremesheen Lipglass. It’s smooth, not sticky, and richly pigmented. The shade is flattering on everyone, too!
Marie Veronique Organics Pacific Lip Treatment
— Did you know lips can show your age? Especially the fine lines surrounding them? Marie Veronique Organics Pacific Lip Treatment is the ultimate night time warrior to help me (and you!) age gracefully.
NARS Satin Lip Pencil
— (in Timanfaya) This is one of my current face products in such a hot color for spring — neon coral! The style of the tip let’s you control the amount of product being applied, and the soft, creamy texture has just the right amount of moisture and pigment balance.
— Sometimes basic is best! This ointment is dirt cheap and blows most balms outta the water. It’s super thick, emollient and seals in precious moisture.
My toothbrush — What? Well, it is the best lip exfoliator EVER. Smooth, soft lips, for free? Yes, please.
Yuli Skincare Cellular Lip Conditioner —
This is a completely sheer, yet very glassy lip conditioner that instantly makes me look a little more done
once I swipe it on. Filled with goodies like sea buckthorn, rosehip and ginger lily, this is like a multivitamin for your lips. But wait! It gets better: this lip conditioner also acts as a natural UV shield so this is a good one to throw in your beach bag. Yuli also gets creativity points for housing this product in a “UV deterrent glass vial” for extra sun protection.
Osmia Organics Luster Lip Gloss —
Remember when O Glow’s Inuitive Lip Plumper was a big deal back in the day? I tried it myself and the frighteningly red tint looked terrible with my skin tone. Since then, I’ve never been a believer in the so-called adjustable, “one color fits all” concept. Happily, Osmia’s stunning Luster Lip Gloss has completely changed my mind. I think this is a perfect everyday option for those of you looking for that my lips but better
color. Made with pomegranate, beet root and alkanet root, you don’t only look good but also don’t have to worry about the affects of licking your lips throughout the day — this lip gloss is pretty much food grade.
CV Skinlabs Restorative Skin Balm (not pictured) —
Think of this super thick, all-purpose salve as your savior from Vaseline. I know Vaseline is a very classic standby for many, but for those of you who want a slightly greener option, I think this is the best replacement I’ve found thus far. The entire CV Skinlabs line was designed for those suffering from side effects of harsh treatments such as radiation and chemotherapy, so when it claims to be gentle, it actually means gentle
. In short, this is your ultimate savior, lip or otherwise.
Tom Ford Ultra Shine Lip Gloss —
So my next two favorites aren’t what I’d call the most natural lip options out there, but their highly pigmented color collections are just so on point that I had to include them. Tom Ford’s lip glosses are super shiny but not tacky, so I don’t feel like I’m pulling the ends of my hair out of my lips all day. I especially love layering Sahara Pink over my nude (Tom Ford) lipsticks to compliment a nighttime smoky eye.
Tom Ford Lip Color —
After countless nights of five-course dinners, cocktails and dancing, I’ve found that Tom Ford’s lipsticks are one of the few lipsticks, natural or not, that can truly stand the test of time. On top of that, Tom Ford’s Lip Colors won’t dry you out so it’s basically as low maintenance as lipstick can get. My personal favorite is the Cherry Lush shade. I highly recommend it to anyone with fantasies of sporting the perfect red lip. As a woman of Chinese descent, red lipstick can very easily make me look like an extra from Memoirs of a Geisha
, but this particular shade is modern enough to keep me firmly out of geisha territory. Oh and a word of caution to those new to the Tom Ford line: evidently “Tom doesn’t believe in lipliner”, so you’ll have to go freestyle with these guys.
June Jacobs Lip Kit
— Envision a facial for your lips with paraben and preservative free ingredients that can plump skin and improve the look of fine lines in a three step process.
Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in F-Bomb — This pigmented lipstick was the first to make me fully embrace the bold lip. The classic red is easy to wear and keeps lips hydrated and prevents flaking.
Chantecaille ‘Spring Color – Brilliant’ Gloss in Pretty — Rarely does a lip gloss blow me away, but this newest from Chantecaille has the perfect balance of pigment, texture and scent to give the ideal spring pink pout.
Nivea Lip Butter in Vanilla & Macadamia Kiss — This intensely hydrating lip treatment infused with shea butter & almond oil is the only thing that could heal my dry winter lips and at a bargain basement price.
bliss Fabulips™ ‘Pout’-o-matic Spa Powered Lip-Perfecting System — As a gadget lover, I couldn’t resist this lip device that uses gentle rotation to exfoliate lips plus it comes with one of my all time favorite lip scrubs, Fabulips Sugar Lip Scrub.
