Have you ever taken the time to actually plan out your wardrobe in advance? Taken inventory of what you have for the upcoming season, seeing if everything fits, and making a list of the items you know you will want/need or want to replace? Then slowly start to replace/purchase those items during sales or at your convenience so by the time the season starts you’re all set besides maybe some trendy items that you want throughout the season?
Sounds like a dream, right? I think you’d have to be really organized to always do this and stay on top of it, but every once in a while — especially before a busy season — it’s good to get things at least a little together in advance. I have lists for all of the seasons in my book The Life Edit — which helps you edit down your wardrobe and plan for each season.
This year I knew I needed black jeans, so when I saw these black jeans on sale I nabbed them, and they are super comfy! It says they run small and order a size up, but I actually didn’t find that to be true. Nordstrom has free shipping and free returns so it was no big deal to try them, but I already knew that the brand PAIGE was a brand that fits me well, which is something I talk a lot about in The Life Edit — finding the brands that fit you. Speaking of PAIGE, the blue jeans I’m wearing in these photos are also PAIGE and they have been my favorite jeans for the past year.
When it comes to trendier items, I only buy them if I’m absolutely in love with them and the price is right. So when I saw this faux fur and shearling jacket at the Nordstrom sale, marked down from $188 to $120 during the sale, I was like YES YES YES. This was exactly one of those trend items I knew I’d want for the upcoming season.
When it came in the mail, this jacket did NOT disappoint. The fabrics are so soft and expensive looking. I feel like this jacket could be priced much higher (but am glad it’s not!).
I love to have a few jackets that are the outfit, you know what I mean? Like if you are going somewhere cold where you have to leave your jacket on, but you still want to look amazing — you just need a few jackets to accomplish this!
Also I like to wear simple neutral outfits, easy neutral tops with blue, black, or gray jeans, but I can still look thoughtful and like I have something interesting on with a cool jacket. I know I’ll be wearing this jacket a ton, and not just this year but for years to come. It is DEFINITELY my favorite thing I bought during the Nordstrom sale. The black jeans come in a close second because they are awesome and a staple in my wardrobe, followed by the floral kimono, and the pink muscle tee.
This isn’t really the type of item you outgrow either since it’s a boxy oversized look. Since it’s neutral, there’s even less of a chance that I’ll stop liking it at some point.

I’m actually wearing all of my mother’s rings — her dome ring, Irish Claddagh Ring, and Tiger’s Eye ring, but I’ve linked to similar ones for you above.
