MILK BAR — 1090 I Street NW, next to Momofuku

I did not know what I was getting myself into when I went to the new Milk Bar in DC’s CityCenter. Honestly I didn’t do much research about it, I had just heard about it and seen cute photos of the soft serve on Instagram. Being the ice cream & sweets fiend that I am, I knew I needed to try it.

Honestly I’d love to try every single pastry, shake, pie, and cake in there, but that wouldn’t be good for my sugar levels now would it. I told the girl — make me the cutest soft serve you have! It’s all for the photos people, all for the photos.

They usually only have two types of soft serve, and at the time one was a yellow pretzel flavor, so cereal milk — which is white — became my obvious choice. I’m not a huge fan of yellow, but I do wish I had tried it now that it’s gone! They change the menu frequently.

I didn’t actually really realize it was cereal milk soft serve — I just wanted the white one. I thought it was strange that they were putting little crunchy cereal as a topping but Pinkberry has stranger things, and I trust people who make sweets for a living, so I just went with it. They usually know what they are doing.

When I tried it, I was like whoa, this literally tastes like milk, but in a good way, because I don’t drink milk. And honestly, the crunchy cereal I was so skeptical was THE BEST PART. I always like something for texture in my ice cream, whether it’s fruit or something crunchy, I’m always craving texture.

So, little known fact, I HATE it when people drink the milk after they eat cereal out of it. Honestly just typing that makes me gag a little. Like I have to leave the room when people do it. I find it absolutely disgusting, so this soft serve gets you that flavor without all the grossness.

My opinion: It worth going to Milk Bar? I’d say yes! The flavor was so interesting, I want more!

I wrote in this post how I think art is everywhere and can be made in many different ways, and I think that chef Christina Tosi is creating art with her sweets at Milk Bar (which by the way, she’s from the DC area). I mean, just look at this menu and tell me you don’t want to try it! Next time, I think I’ll have to try several things, or everything.
