PAIRING ART + WINE // Cappiello and Chardonnay

Skiing, wine, who’s in? I know Jamie is! She’s back with another Art + Wine (always a treat!) and it’s really making me want to hit the slopes then get in a hot tub while snow is falling… if only it weren’t going to be 60 degrees this weekend… — Meg

There is finally a nip in the air here in Washington, D.C. There are two ways of handling this chilly weather – hibernate in your house, cozied up on the couch with a hot beverage, or by getting out there and trying some winter sports (if it were ever to snow…).

I’m such a fan of illustrated vintage advertising. I love the bold, graphic line work, the saturated colors, and expressive gestures of the figures. Leonetto Cappiello, who created this poster, established the poster genre early in the last century and his is influential in advertising still today. Sports d’Hiver makes me want to put on my chicest ski outfit and hit the slopes ASAP. And somewhere near a castle is preferred.

All that action got me thinking about what to pair with all that activity. A winter white is the only option. Le Crema Chardonnay is one of my favorite Chardonnays with a smooth, full-bodied buttery, citrusy taste that warms you as you drink it. It would be perfect for a post ski glass of vino.
