Beauty Confessions

Burt's Bees Lipstick

You guys know I like to keep it real around here, so today I have a few beauty confessions. One you might hate me for, but I can’t help it that I inherited my mother’s amazing skin. The others you might just find surprising.

I’m a little behind in the beauty world anyway. I just tend to try to be as natural as possible. But once I started getting older, and my skin started to change, makeup was something I had to start looking into.

Beauty Confession No.1 — I hate spending time doing my hair and makeup.

So honestly, I don’t spend much time on it unless it’s a photo shoot day or some sort of an event — and then I spend an hour on it. Days where I’m just going to my studio or on the weekends, I barely wear any makeup. I dab on some concealer under my eyes and on any spots, maybe a light brush of mascara, minimal blush unless the sun has recently kissed me, and throw on some lip balm on my way out the door. I want it to be fast, light, and natural.

Beauty Confession No.2 — I didn’t wear lipstick until a few years ago.

I don’t know if that’s weird or just a trend, but I was balm and gloss all the way. In the past few years I’ve definitely made my way over to lipstick and now I can’t live without it.

Even though I prefer a quick and natural look for my everyday makeup routine, I’ve learned that quick and natural doesn’t mean you only have to wear lip balm on your lips. Why not pair that quick face routine with a little lip color? That little lip color with a fresh face of light makeup looks so professional and not overdone.

I tend to gravitate toward nude colors on my lips, but finding the perfect shades of nude can be hard! When I’m going for drama I’ll wear a darker berry or dark dark red, while that’s few and far between, it’s really fun every once in a while.

I got to try out these new Burt’s Bees® lipsticks, and they go on so smooth! The colors are rich without being too much. I was really impressed with the smooth satin formula (there are 14 satin-finished shades to pick from). It’s definitely a hydrating lipstick.

I’ve been a Burt’s Bees® fan for YEARS so I was really excited to try their new beauty products. I carry the vanilla bean balm and milk & honey lotion you saw in this post around with me everywhere. You can find these lipsticks in the natural beauty section at Walmart.

Beauty Confession No.3 — I’ve never worn foundation.

I know, I know, you hate me now. As I said, I inherited my mother’s amazing skin and I started taking care of it with moisturizer since I was in junior high. But, as you age, things just change. I just started noticing my skin changing over the past few years and I’ve noticed, especially in the winter when I’m pale, I need more help. I don’t like heavy or thick foundation so the Burt’s Bees® BB cream was a good fit for me to test out. It’s lightweight, but covers at the same time.

I’ve also just gotten into makeup brushes. I had no idea how important they were until recently. Is it just me, or is it fun to spread things around on your face with a brush? I put the BB cream on all over my face in the light/medium color with the EcoTools® Skin Perfecting Brush (you can find it at Walmart). The bristles of the brush made it easy to get an even application and the rounded edge is great for getting around the eyes and nose (where I need the most help!). At first I wasn’t used to it, but then I realized, how amazing it was to even out your skin tone. Especially for photo shoots! Let’s just say I finally get it when it comes to BB cream. An added bonus is that it also has SPF 15 in it so you can hit up the beach with a perfect face.

Do you use a BB cream? Do you have a favorite shade of lipstick for spring?
