I’m back with another Beauty Dossier where I tell you about some of the beauty products I’ve been out — good and bad! It’s actually rare that a product is quote unquote bad because it might work wonders for someone else. I try to keep an open mind and know that it might not be my personal favorite, or a scent or color I personally like, or work for my skin type or hair type, or heck — maybe I didn’t use it properly. So when I review products I write about them knowing that they might work really well for other people, and I want you to keep that in mind!
Another thing I want you to keep in mind when reading about ANY beauty products, is that I think a lot of them are really hard to tell if they are actually working or doing what they claim to do. Like it would take MONTHS of testing and not using any other new products to know if THAT SPECIFIC product is THE ONE making a difference. So when it comes to skincare, if something stands out to me because it works really well, I find that amazing.
Also I think it can be hard to tell for me how much potential certain products have because I’ve always had pretty good skin. I don’t have a ton of problems I’m trying to fix. The problems are starting, but I don’t stare at myself in the mirror and memorize how many wrinkles I have on the left side of my face, so I think some products might work, but you just can’t see what they are doing in the short term.
Makeup and hair products are much easier — you either like them and they work well, or they don’t. It’s skincare that I find the hardest to truly test. So many other things can affect how your skin looks — did you sleep enough, are you hydrated, have you been in the sun recently, etc. So, just keep all those things in mind when you read about beauty products. In my Beauty Experts column I have a bunch of different ladies with different skin types to address all types of skin and hair!
Now, let’s get into five products I’ve been using recently:
I love this brand. I love that they are a natural, clean brand you can trust. I really like this serum. It smells like oranges. I’m sure it’s doing something good — like I was saying earlier, sometimes you just can’t tell right away! I think maybe if I had skin that needed more of what this does I’d see something specific. I don’t know if I just have dry skin, but I still have to put a moisturizer on top of this. It’s not greasy at all so if you have oily skin it’d probably be a great option if you are looking for a Vitamin C product or a light moisturizer that works with oily skin. I like it and will keep using it.
Tory Burch sure knows how to create beautiful bottles and packaging. I love the concept of this collection — it is inspired by the flowers in her own garden. My favorite scent is Verte — which comes as no surprise because it includes notes of neroli, cedarwood, sandalwood, and musk. All of the scents are very floral, so if that’s not your thing, they probably aren’t for you. I’d say they skew to a more mature crowd.
For a drugstore mascara, this is a good one. It definitely adds volume, for me in a feathery way that I like. My lashes don’t feel brittle, they do feel softer than when wearing other mascaras. I like it and will probably keep it in my rotation of mascaras, however, I do feel like because the wand is able to hold so much product that applying it can be just a tiny bit clumpy. To avoid this just make sure when you are pulling the wand out of the tube to try to get some of the product off of the wand. Less is more.
For me mascara always falls off onto my face under my eyes. Almost guaranteed by the end of the day, sometimes even within hours. After a full day of wear, this mascara it barely got anything under my eyes. I was pleasantly surprised!
I die over eyeshadow palettes. I love that this one has an equal number of mattes and shimmer colors. I’ve mostly been using the entire second row of mattes. It’s nice to have a nude, a warm, and a cool matte all in one place. Make sure to click on the link to see the color swatches on the Stila site!
Having sensitive skin, so I can only use treatment this when I know my skin hasn’t been irritated recently. So if I’ve been in the sun, or recently taken a hot shower, or recently exfoliated — I personally wouldn’t use this right after any of those things. The tingle felt very powerful to me. I really love some other GlamGlow products (that I’ll be sharing soon!), but for me this particular product isn’t something I think my skin can handle regularly.
As far as results, my skin almost always looks better after a mask, but this one hasn’t been my favorite or the best performing for me personally. It wasn’t bad, but I just didn’t notice a huge difference like I have with other masks. I’ll probably try it a few more times just to make sure, but I would read a few other reviews about it if you are considering it — I know a lot of people love this product and your skin might be more similar to their skin than to mine!
If you enjoyed this Beauty Dossier post, please tell me in the comments about a recent beauty product you tried and either liked or didn’t like!
All products were given to me for review. All opinions are honest and are my own. I was not paid to talk about any of these products.
