Lately I’ve been obsessing over hair. I wrote about Emily’s new do, and then without going completely platinum I did go a lot lighter and will continue to get lighter slowly. So in addition to ash blonde I’ve had a thing (I always have) for unstyled hair that looks natural and amazing (usually it’s styled to look that way). In the March issue of Lucky Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen did a little beauty interview where they said they air-dry their hair. Their air-dried look is exactly what I’m going for. Plus I’ve been trying to NOT dry my hair as much as possible to keep it as healthy as possible. I soon I found myself in the internet rabbit hole of research on their hair, what products they use, how they do it, etc., and this is what I’ve found:
They said they’ve worked with Dove’s celebrity hairstylist Mark Townsend since they were 12, and he said in this interview on The Coveteur about Olsen Hair that he uses Dove Nourishing Oils Anti-Frizz Serum, Dove Nourishing Oil Care Detangler, and Dove Dry Shampoo on them. In the interview Dove wasn’t mentioned in the copy (seems like they don’t use Dove at home), but it did say that Ashley washes her hair with Frédéric Fekkai PrX Reparatives and Mary-Kate uses Rodin By Recine Hair Oil.
Lucky for me, I have pretty similar naturally wavy hair to Mary-Kate and Ashley, although mine seems a bit more frizzy than theirs, but I think with the right product mix, I can finally figure out how to get an air-dry look I can wear for every day. I’ve just never had the patience to figure it out until now.
My hair is a bit on the thinner side so I can’t use as much oil as most people, I mean I can hardly use any before it’s too much and I have to rewash my hair, so I have to find the perfect combination of shampoo, conditioner, leave-in conditioner spray, hair oil, and dry shampoo.
If you’ve got the secret product or process for my air-dry quest, please let me know!
