I’ve said this often, and in my book The Life Edit, that I know when to buy something — it’s when I think about it for days (or even months after I see it). With almost any item I will think about it for a while before purchasing. Do I have a similar item already? What will I wear it with? Will I wear it right now? Would I buy it full price? Do I love it or is it just trendy?
I don’t like to have a lot of clothes I don’t wear so I really think about things before I make a purchase. This Mara Hoffman Check Skirt was one of those items that I knew immediately when I saw it, that it was going to be one of my fall additions. Unfortunately the week I was taking to think about it, it sold out on the website I wanted to buy it from (because I had a gift card for that site). And I had to wait and hope that it would come back in stock so I could get it. Thankfully they did restock the skirt and I bought it immediately.
The paperbag waist skirt design is typically very flattering for my body so finding a midi skirt with a paperbag waist in a pattern I really loved (plus also has pockets!), I knew it was going to be something I couldn’t stop thinking about.
I bought it, I’ve already worn it multiple times, and I love it. I always get tons of compliments when I wear it. It can be dressed up with texture and sparkle and heels, or you could dress it down with a chunky bootie and more casual accessories and makeup.
Each season I like to find a few items that are really amazing, and then typically I wear them to death. I try to spread them out of when I wear them and who I wear them around, but especially if I’ve spent a lot of money on them I’ll wear them all the time. I don’t care if people see me in the same item twice — or five times!
