When did you start your website?

2007. I know! That was forever ago in blogland. The site will turn 10 in November 2017!

Do you take all of your photos?

Some of them I take myself, but in the past few years I’ve hired professional photographers for a lot of my photography. The photographer is always credited in the post and I always style the images myself.

How do you make money?

Several ways. I work with brands on partnership projects. Any post or content that is a partnership will be clearly stated. Know that I am very particular about the companies I work with. Being honest and truthful about the products and brands I support is of the utmost importance to me. I work with affiliate companies like rewardStyle and Amazon to make a small commission from some of the product sales through my site.

I produce and style photo shoots (I spent five years doing this and designing at Hallmark Cards before going out on my own full-time), you can see my portfolio here. I do speaking engagements, consulting work, and all types of creative projects. I also sell my paintings, do commissions, and murals. I have online courses, and sell products like my key tags, my book The Life Edit, and GSD notepads.

Do you have any advice about starting a blog?

Oh, so much, and it all depends on your specific situation, passions, and goals. But my number one piece of advice would be to make sure it’s something you’re so passionate about. Something that you want to do regardless of if it makes money or not. Have something unique or niche is also very helpful when trying to break into the very saturated blogging world.

What is your least favorite thing about blogging?

This might surprise people but I hate getting ready, meaning doing my hair and makeup. Any day that I can go without makeup and using dry shampoo I do! I also hate being in photo shoots myself. I do it, as it’s a huge part of my job, but it’s one of my least favorite parts. I’d much rather direct a model and photographer!

Why do you always wear your hair in a bun?

For the past 2-3 years I’ve been wearing my hair in a bun because I lost about 1/5 of it in one day. You can read about it in this post.
