Working out doesn’t always have to be about a class or running. Personally I like to do active things that don’t seem like a workout. You are so focused on the activity that it distracts you from the fact that you are getting a workout in.

For my 31st birthday this year I wanted to do something active and memorable. I feel like years have gone by and if you don’t do interesting things to help mark times in your life, you forget, and don’t have any specific memories. So this year I decided to go to Trapeze School on my birthday, and somehow talked my husband into doing it with me. You can read all about it in my trapeze school post.

While I was at trapeze school I was admiring these giant ribbon looking things. They are called the silks and I learned you could take a group class. So I thought it would be a fun thing for the collective ladies to do together.

Turns out, it’s actually way harder than I thought it was going to be to move around. And it was also a little painful (although if you have a lot of muscle or lift weights regularly it probably wouldn’t hurt too much). And when I say painful, I just mean the whiny kind, not like really painful. The people who are talented at silks have some major muscle because it’s definitely not easy! Not so hard that you shouldn’t try it though. It was a really fun class to do in a group.

Afterward we drank sangria.

This was my favorite pose. My roots look a little cray upside down but whatever.

Have you ever tried trapeze or silks?

Check out the DC Trapeze School if you are in DC.
