I think it’s safe to say that music just moves people. I typically associate certain musicians or albums with periods in my life. With Jamie it was my first year post college, which was also the first year of my marriage. My husband and I lived in Sarasota, Florida, and I still had a CD player in my Honda Accord.
I would listen to Jamie’s album Catching Tales on my way to and from office on Longboat Key, and to this day I associate the album with my time living in Florida. When I hear the songs from that album I can smell the sea and feel the beach wind hitting my face.
I had the pleasure of seeing Jamie last year at the at the St. Regis Jazz event in Washington DC, but this year at the same event, I got to spend some time with him before his performance. Jamie has partnered with the St. Regis, which has roots in jazz, and performs at their properties all over the world.
You know that feeling you get when you see someone perform and you realize that they are just perfect for what they are doing. They are so gifted at their trade it was obviously undeniable that should be doing what they are doing. That is Jamie. He is so incredibly gifted it is an honor just to witness him perform.
In addition to his exceptional talent, he’s also a really nice guy. Married with two kids — he showed me photos on his phone and I showed him photos of my niece and nephew.
This event was the perfect excuse to pull out my most favorite dress. I bought this dress at BCBG over a year ago for a winter wedding and it was a huge hit. I love that it’s long and has long sleeves. It’s a dress I will wear over and over because it’s just that good. I believe now the only place you can find it is here. Some of the reviews say it runs short, but I don’t agree. I’m 5’7 and wore it with heels and it was the perfect length.
