To be totally honest with you, I’m not that adventurous when it comes to colorful makeup — except nail polish, and even then, I’m pretty neutral or normal. However, in the past few years lots of fun nail polish colors have become popular, straying away from your regular pinks, reds and corals, to light blues and pastel purples — and I’m lovin’ it.
Beyond my nails, I’m pretty vanilla when it comes to eye, lip and cheek color. So, since the summers are full of bright colors — yellow sun, blue water, pink bikinis, I asked my resident beauty bloggers what some of their favorite colorful beauty products are this month.
For me, these products stood out when I thought about summer color as it pertains to beauty products:
The new Tory Burch lip color surprised me with its formula. I don’t know what I was expecting, but the ease of application really impressed me. I was also surprised at how light the packaging is. I think I was expecting a heavy tube, like Tom Ford’s tubes, but the Tory Burch tubes are extremely light. Thanks for not making my purse any heavier Tory!
I can vouch for the bareMinerals eyeliner — this stuff does not move! Since I have blue/green eyes, I think the bronze would look really cool for fall.
I mean, this Guerlain eyeshadow palette speaks for itself.
Tom Ford’s scents are just beyond. I’m a total follower, I’m on the bandwagon, I don’t care, I love him and all he does. From his packaging, to his naming of each product … he’s just the epitome of style. Being a body oil freak, I’d be happy to add this Neroli Portofino Body Oil to my body oil arsenal.
Let’s see what the beauty bloggers recommend!
ELIZABETH DEHN // Beauty Bets
ELLE CHOI // Elle Choi
The hot pink lip is still at the top of my list of beauty faves. I can’t get over Em Cosmetic’s “Don’t Tell Mom” lipstick. It’s smooth and creamy with just the right amount of shine.
LINDSAY ROGERS // Belle Belle Beauty
MAC Cosmetics Candy Yum Yum has great pigment and a matte finish that really shows off this shocking pink shade. I love pairing this lip with a classic and neutral outfit for a little pop.
Deborah Lippmann Don’t Stop Believin Nail Polish is a orange-red that celebrates a rebirth of 1980’s classics. The shade is a burst of color without being too shocking.
Revlon ColorStay Eye Liner in Sapphire is waterproof and includes a pull-out sharpener. Plus, this unexpected blue can bring out the gold in hazel eyes and add a sparkle to the whites.
Perricone MD No Blush Blush is the perfect balance of pigment and healthy ingredients to keep skin looking great. Plus, you are ensured your perfect glow with self-adjusting shade.
NARS Duo Eyeshadow in Kauai partners gold with orchid. Apply a wash of purple on lids and gold at the corner of eyes for a vibrant awake look.
LARA RAMOS // The Glossarie
KARA MANOS // Politics of Pretty
In the summer, I swap my lipsticks for refreshing and colorful tinted lip balms. Right now I’ve been rotating Benefit’s four new Hydrating Tinted Lip Balms in to my daily beauty routine. I don’t know what I’m more obsessed with—the pop of color or the pretty packaging.
I’ve become a huge NARS junkie and their Dual-Intensity Eyshadow falls nothing short of glam. These shadows can be applied wet or dry. To be honest, I can’t think of the last time I applied shadow wet but these singles have me hooked. I love the metallic finish.
I love trying different beauty looks. I don’t think I’ve worn traditional black liner all summer thanks to Stila’s assortment of colorful waterproof eye liners. Right now I’m loving Mint Julep, a mint green shade, but I’ve also got Violet and Graphite in my makeup arsenal.
My choice of blush changes on a frequent basis but this silky formula from Clinique gives me such a nice natural glow, this cheek pop has taken up a permanent residence in my makeup bag.
I could wear coral nail polish all summer long. Yes, I love Essie’s Cute as a Button that much.
MEGAN SCHWARZ // Seed to Serum
When I wear blush, the brighter, the better! Ilia’s Multi-Stick in All of Me is a warm watermelon color that brings my skin to life, imparting a healthy radiance that I just can’t get from more neutral shades.
Oh how I love Kjaer Weis Lip Tints. There are very few lip products that successfully marry vibrant color with lasting hydration AND this is one of them. My current go-to shade is Romance because nothing says summer like a sexy pop of pink!
This five-free nail polish is stunning and if I had my way, my toes would never be without this sassy, turquoise shade from Treat Nail Polish.
Admittedly I have yet to try Royal, but I have dreams about this RMS Lip Shine in Royal. Purple is all the rage and I’m ready to dive head first into this trend!
Never underestimate the power and beauty of sparkling nude eye shadow. Okay, okay, so Alima Pure Eye Shadow in Paris isn’t “bright” per se, but it is sparkly, so that counts, right?! Wear it day or night; your peepers will thank you!

Summer is also the time my usually dry skin gets a little slick. To keep the t-zone situation under control, I use S.W. Basics Hibiscus Mask. Hibiscus, a.k.a. “nature’s Botox,” is what transforms this into a bright red mud when you add water.
Contrary to what you may think, the perfect under $10 bright tomato red gloss that stays for hours and stains your lips without drying does in fact exist. Revlon Shanghai Sizzle is a summer gem.
AILA nail polish in Ginger is a bright and cheery pinky coral that complements my mostly neutral summer wardrobe of grey and black maxi dresses. I love these square glass bottles and the fact that the brand is led by two female physicians who are on a mission to clean up toxins found in most nail polishes.
Benefit Cha Cha Tint…this summer and always. It’s the perfect mango hue that looks good on all complexions!
A swipe of turquoise liner along the upper lash line is an edgy look I love wearing. My favorite shade is the NARS Eye Paint in Solomon Islands – I could swim in that pot of liner!
