Newport Mansions: The Breakers & The Elms

The Elms Mansion - Newport - Art

The last leg of our New England trip my husband and I went to Newport, Rhode Island, to see the famous Newport Mansions from the Gilded Age. We visited The Breakers (built by the Vanderbilt family) and The Elms and did the self-guided tours.

I found the tours fascinating. There was a room for everything, a game room, a card-playing room, etc. Everything was opulent and grand, except a lot of the bedrooms upstairs were actually quite plain in comparison to the spaces where guests would see.

If you are ever in the Newport area or appreciate architecture and historical interior design you have to see the mansions! The art collections alone are amazing. Houses like this just aren’t made anymore (for good reasons) but they are gorgeous.
