Activewear has had a bit of a renaissance in the past few years. Back in the day our choices were whatever the big brands put out, plus any of the lycra/nylon bodysuits and giant scrunchie socks worn by the permed haired women of the Jazzercise/Jane Fonda/Suzanne Somers era. While bodysuits might be having a small fashion comeback, it’s not so much in activewear.
In the past few years a ton of high-fashion inspired activewear companies have launched giving all of us ladies a lot more options when it comes to what we wear for exercising. Now they even make activewear cool enough to wear to work and workout in. Case in point these moto leggings. I have already worn these during the workday — they just look like black moto pants/leggings — and then worked out in them later.
I’m all about clothing that makes my life easier, so if I can find a pair of leggings that I can wear during the workday and to workout in, I’m much more likely to buy them.
Just like the rest of my wardrobe, I prefer all my workout clothing to be black, gray, or neutral. Every once in a while there might be something really cool that I just can’t resist, but it’s rare.
Can we talk about how gorgeous this workout studio is? It’s Kinesis in Georgetown where they offer pilates, boxing, personal training, M.A.T. (muscle activation techniques). If you like a personalized one-on-one workout that is tailored exactly to your needs, Kinesis is the place for you. Not to mention that the space is absolutely BEAUTIFUL. White brick walls, gorgeous light, and art!
Over the past few months I’ve been taking pilates with my friend Hilary who is training to become an instructor. I love how I can say — I want to focus on my legs, and she tailors the workout to that. Or if my arms are sore from a CrossFit workout, she’ll help me work them out. And if for whatever reason you are skeptical about pilates, LeBron does it.
As I get older, working out becomes more and more important to me. But I’m not one to sacrifice style, so having so many options for cool activewear makes me happy and I’ve begun to grow my activewear wardrobe a lot recently as I want at least a week’s worth of outfits before I have to do laundry…is that terrible? It’s true.
